We Mainers are no strangers to bundling up for a cold day — so what if we looked at making your home comfortable and efficient similarly to the way we would prepare for braving a winter storm? The good news is, these home upgrades will keep your home increasingly comfortable during the hot and humid summer too!

Hat: attic insulation

Giving your home a nice attic insulation “beanie” will stop heat from escaping out the top of your house, while also preventing summer heat from infiltrating during the warm months.

Sweater: Exterior wall insulation

The insulation in your exterior walls will keep your home warm like a thick and cozy sweater, while also preventing the summer sun from warming up the exterior of your home, and thus your interior temperatures.

Wind breaker and pants: air sealing

We all know that a thick wool sweater provides thermal protection, as long as the wind isn’t blowing through it! Combining insulation with air sealing is the best way to control the flow of heat in a home. Air sealing provides an airtight seal for your indoor living space much like a wind breaker and pants, preventing air from freely moving in and out and keeping your home dry and healthy.

Goggles: New windows

Your windows are how you safely see the world from your living room, without affecting your indoor comfort. Professionally installed windows and doors add to the airtight seal of your home, while improving curb appeal and reducing energy loss. Special tints and coatings allow you to customize your experience, either augmenting the amount of light/heat entering your home for passive heating or shading it from the glare.

Wool socks: Basement insulation

Before you put your shoes on, you’ve got to make sure your feet will stay at a comfortable temperature! This is similar to the insulation in your basement, which will keep temperatures in your basement more consistent, improving the comfort of the rest of your home in the process.

Boots: Basement encapsulation

If you don’t have a pair of waterproof boots here in Maine, are you even a Mainer?  Encapsulating your basement to keep it dry is like wearing a pair of trusted rubber boots conformed to your feet. Basement encapsulation lays the foundation for a dry, comfortable, healthy, and efficient home!

The Evergreen Team did a fabulous job and was very tuned and responsive to the particular needs we had. The job was done right on budget and we are thrilled with the improved warmth and energy efficiency.

Last week, my oil company asked if we were using some other kind of fuel because our usage was so much less than they had expected We are very happy with the results; the house is much more comfortable

I never leave reviews, but had a great experience with Evergreen and wanted to spread the word! In short, we worked with them to insulate our roof this winter and have noticed surprising immediate results. The constant ice dams I have wrestled with are completely gone, and the home is noticeably more comfortable. It's a little too early to tell if our oil bill is going to reduce, but I imagine we will see an impact there as well.

Awesome company. It was a few years ago that they did the audit and then we commissioned them to do the work. We subsequently sold our house and moved to South Africa, but their level of service and expertise will live on.

We had Evergreen redo the insulation in our roof. The team handling our project did a great job. They left the house spotless. We've already noticed the difference in how much better our house is retaining heat. I would definitely recommend and will use them for future projects.

This team of individuals was professional at all times. They set up barriers that kept the dust at a minimum. They conducted an air flow audit and cut the draft circulation from the outside in half by sealing cracks. They hauled out the old insulation and replaced it with blown in insulation with an R - 60 Value. They also did the rebate paperwork so that I could get my $1500.00 rebate from the state of Maine. I highly recommend Evergreen Home Performance!

Nothing but good things to say. The guys that came and did the actual work were extremely nice and did a great job. The energy audit was thorough and I was presented with multiple improvement options, I was even given ideas for improvement that Evergreen didn't offer. I never felt like I was being "sold".

Evergreen has insulated two homes that we've owned now and both times we experienced exceptional service and craftsmanship. Our rep, Justin, went above and beyond answering questions and the installation team was attentive to every detail, including pulling out old poorly installed insulation and redoing a bathroom fan that wasn't up to current code. They also left the place spotless every day! Our home is already so much warmer this fall and we are looking forward to using less oil this winter.

Evergreen has just completed Phase 2 of 2 at my home. They are professional, hard-working and courteous. They communicate well..no surprises. They've gone above and beyond to make my home comfortable and were very respectful of my home.I recommend them unequivocally!!!Many thanks to Brian, Brian, Rick, Eddie, Dawson and the rest of the Evergreen crew!!

Working with Brian and with Nate and the rest of the crew was a pleasure. They made everything very easy and understandable. This was a major renovation and they were always at the ready with a lot of information. We had an extensive renovation on the basement which was a dirt basement and it came out beautifully. We can already tell from all of the insulation work what a difference it's made in sound and temperature. Brian worked with me on the rebates that are available when you do this kind of work. I would highly recommend this company to…

Several years ago Brian Robinson evaluated the crawl space at my summer home on Islesboro where I knew moisture was becoming a problem. I had done quite a bit of work in the space many years prior with mixed results. When Brian offered some suggestions, they were ideas that incorporated work previously done, and would be a relatively low cost effort to improve the situation. He offered this advice over several phone conversations of some length, informally, and at no charge.

Greetings one and all! I am writing to express my gratitude to all involved in my insulation project.  From start to finish, I appreciate the universal theme which was maintained by each and every one of you, to ensure that my home was insulated and protected from freezing pipes as if it was your home. Andrea, thanks for helping me navigate my way to the project. Nate, thanks for the thorough initial assessment and the time you took to explain this project to me, step by step. Brian, thanks for setting up my project - so happy

Michele

We needed basement encapsulation to stop moisture coming up into the house from our regularly flooding basement. We had mold growing on windowsills and furniture. All the staff were friendly, respectful of our home, and easy to work with. Humidity has gone from 70% down to 40% and mold has not grown back after two months. Very grateful.

First we have Evergreen do a BIG project worth about $20K (windows, basement, insulate & rebuild an entire wall, a door, attics, and air sealing). They were so great we had them come back later when we decided we did want to do our other door. They are professional and do great work. They take care of your home and are trustworthy, and on top of all that friendly! I highly recommend you call them!
