French Drains

French Drains

A Better French Drain for Maine Basements

Does your sump pump run constantly, but water still finds a way in – along the floor, through the walls, or underneath the slab of your home?

That’s where a French drain system can make all the difference.

At Evergreen, we install Hydraway drainage systems – fast-draining, clog-resistant systems designed for Maine’s heavy soils and unpredictable weather. It’s just one part of our basement waterproofing services that help solve basement moisture problems for good.

A key distinction between the drainage systems we install versus surface-level “gutter” style systems other companies offer is that our systems are installed 10″ below the top surface of the slab and beside the footing (if there is one). Our systems are designed for superior performance, fewer maintenance issues, and stronger protection for your home against water.

Why Homeowners Trust Hydraway to Protect Their Basements

Built for performance. Hydraway systems move water up to 70% faster than traditional drainage systems. That’s the highest inflow rate available today.

Excellent for Maine soil. Unlike gravel-based systems that clog with dirt and debris, Hydraway stays clean and keeps working – even in the heavy clay and silt common to our service area in Coastal and Southern Maine.

Tested and trusted. With a 0% failure rate when properly installed, this system gives you long-term peace of mind.

French Drains: An Important Step in Comprehensive Basement Waterproofing

A French drain is powerful, but it’s only one of the tools at your disposal when you work with Evergreen on a basement waterproofing strategy. Other solutions we may use in tandem with French drains include:

With Evergreen, you don’t just stop water – you create a basement that’s dry, healthy, and energy efficient from the ground up.

How We Install Your French Drain

  1. We trench along the interior perimeter of your basement and install the Hydraway system below slab level.
  2. We backfill with clean stone and connect the system to a new sump pump.
  3. We restore the concrete floor and clean the work area – leaving your basement neat, dry, and ready.

Our house still the most efficient home we’ve ever lived in. And we have you folks to thank for that! A special howdy to Brian Robinson please!

Bruce O’Donal and Eva Butler

Professional, friendly and hard-working staff. The product/approach they use for insulation is top notch. We felt the difference immediately, both from added warmth and eliminating drafts. The team and management were easily available to answer our questions or coordinate meeting times. Highly recommended.

Evergreen came back this year to finish insulating our house. We have been remodeling and renovating an 1850s cape for several years. Their employees are very professional and pleasant to deal with. Over several years Brian Robinson has been able to schedule us in for several small areas that needed addressing and finally turning a room we used to close off in the winter into a comfortable usable space. We primarily heat with wood and since Evergreens great work our furnace has only come on ONCE this winter. Fantastic. Really satisfied customer in Thomaston.

Thomaston

Evergreen completed the work at my home thoroughly and professionally. An inspector from Efficiency Maine came to inspect afterwards and described it as "state of the art" and "outstanding". The crew was very pleasant and considerate during the project. Their cleanup each day was perfect. Communications with the office were easy and reliable. I am very satisfied.

Evergreen Home Performance shows its expertise from start to finish. Evergreen did three house projects in winter/spring/summer 2020 for me, attic insulation, crawl space under a porch insulation, and basement foam/vapor barrier. From my initial discussion with Bryan, I understood the reasons for choosing different types of insulation, the associated costs, and time estimates. Evergreen scheduled in advance, came when they said they would, and the crews were highly professional in their work and demeanor.

Working with Brian and with Nate and the rest of the crew was a pleasure. They made everything very easy and understandable. This was a major renovation and they were always at the ready with a lot of information. We had an extensive renovation on the basement which was a dirt basement and it came out beautifully. We can already tell from all of the insulation work what a difference it's made in sound and temperature. Brian worked with me on the rebates that are available when you do this kind of work. I would highly recommend this company to…

They've gone above and beyond to make my home comfortable and were very respectful of my home.I recommend them unequivocally!!!Many thanks to Brian, Brian, Rick, Eddie, Dawson and the rest of the Evergreen crew!!

Great job installing windows and insulation.

A thorough inspection of our (older) house and its energy needs. Competent and personable work crew.

I was extremely pleased with the professionalism and quality of service that I received from the Evergreen team. I met Richard to discuss options for insulation. I knew immediately that I wanted to do business with them because he did not try to over-sell extra services that I did not need. Dave was the project manager. He was not only kind, but very respectful of my home. I would highly recommend this company.

In the final stages of selling our home, and with a closing date set, an inspection came across an unanticipated issue in our attic. We quickly called in contractors, but nobody was able to identify the source of the problem. Then we thought of Evergreen. Brian Robinson was on site the next morning and immediately identified the source (a faulty roofing job completed three years earlier which had effectively sealed up portions of the ridge vent and restricted air flow - not easily visible with a quick inspection).

We needed basement encapsulation to stop moisture coming up into the house from our regularly flooding basement. We had mold growing on windowsills and furniture. All the staff were friendly, respectful of our home, and easy to work with. Humidity has gone from 70% down to 40% and mold has not grown back after two months. Very grateful.

Evergreen listened and produced a thoughtful evaluation, proposal and comprehensive plan for our attic and basement. They exhibited excellent workmanship, teamwork, and came back as planned after the completion of the job to test the outcomes. Their overall performance as insulation and home improvement contractors is truly outstanding and we highly recommend them.

They were highly recommended. I found them to be very knowledgeable and so helpful, with practical ideas. Despite my not living within their service area, they were generous with their knowledge, describing the usual solutions to correct leaks in my basement, and what the result is likely to be by following path A, B or C, and why. I was discouraged. Talking with Evergreen helped me see that my basement problems are far from insurmountable and really, fairly common in 100-year old homes. There are proven solutions.
