Susan Collins Honors Evergreen at Efficiency Maine Symposium

We always enjoy Efficiency Maine’s annual symposium, and this year’s event was no exception. We caught up with colleagues; helped honor our friend Rick Karg for his incredible contributions to the field of building science; and listened to U.S. Senator Susan Collins speak eloquently about the need for – and benefits of – urgent action on climate change.

We were also honored with two Efficiency Maine awards for Outstanding Contributions to Energy Efficiency last week – one for leadership in the Residential Energy Efficiency Program and one for leadership in Marketing. Senator Collins presented the awards and praised honorees for their commitment to affordable, sustainable, environmentally responsible energy efficiency improvements.

“Encouraging the adoption of energy efficiency measures remains the most effective mechanism for lowering energy costs, reducing pollution, and ultimately saving money,” said Collins. “That makes energy efficiency not just good environmental policy; it’s good economics.”

Evergreen has been a leader in the field since Richard Burbank founded the company as a one-man operation in 2006. Today, it’s a 23-person team that provides energy audits, insulation, air sealing, and basement encapsulation to improve comfort and lower energy costs for homeowners throughout Maine. I used to spend winters in the bathtub because my house was so cold. This was my first winter roaming around my whole house comfortably. This even led me to decorate a little. My heating oil usage has been reduced by over a quarter: I rarely have to boost the thermostat because the temp stays at a constant. Evergreen was so helpful in securing us Efficiency Maine funding for a big attic insulation project early this winter. They did all of the paperwork, and totally guided us through a vermiculite removal process that included a payment from a trust for the procedure. I could instantly feel the second floor being so much warmer than before. The boiler does not kick on nearly as frequently since they completed the job. It was worth every penny! Evergreen came out 2 years ago to do an assessment and insulate our roof. This year we had them come back and do the basement as well. They are hands-down the best crew we've ever hired to work on our house. They are experts at what they do, and super meticulous in their work. After working in our house for a week with blown insulation, there was no trace they were ever here. Evergreen came back this year to finish insulating our house. We have been remodeling and renovating an 1850s cape for several years. Their employees are very professional and pleasant to deal with.
