Home Performance Upgrades for a Smaller Carbon Footprint

Many homeowners from the Portland area all the way up to Camden consider home performance upgrades such as professional air sealing or insulation in order to achieve greater home comfort in Maine’s extreme climate. But did you know that these upgrades can also give you lower utility costs and a reduced carbon footprint? When weighing the potential benefits of a home performance upgrade for your home, be sure to consider the three Cs: carbon footprint, comfort, and cost.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

Here’s a key benefit of home performance upgrades that will give you peace of mind: a reduced carbon footprint. Roughly one quarter of Maine’s energy consumption is in the residential sector. Imagine upgrading your home to  passive solar house conditions, where your Maine home is warmed by the sun, professional insulation and weatherization keep indoor temperatures constant, and where you do not need to rely on wasteful amounts of fossil fuels to heat and cool your home. Your home’s energy use is minimal, and you can breathe easy knowing that you’re doing your part to protect the environment. With the right home performance upgrades, all of this can be a reality.

Greater Home Comfort

Greater home comfort is one of the first benefits you’ll see after upgrading your home. The right contractor will work with you to create a home performance solution that resolves your home’s unique comfort issues. At Evergreen Home Performance, our process starts with an energy audit to determine your home’s needs. Then, we design and complete a customized efficiency project for your home. Your project may involve air sealing and attic insulation to stabilize indoor temperatures, or basement encapsulation to put an end to cold floors. Each home performance upgrade will offer unique home comfort benefits for you and your family.

Lower Energy Costs

In addition to greater home comfort, a home performance upgrade will also deliver improved energy efficiency. For you, that means lower energy use and, in turn, lower energy costs. Air sealing, for example, will reduce the amount of heated and cooled air that escapes your home. When your home performs better, keeping it comfortable will cost you less. And with special financing available through Efficiency Maine, lowering energy costs with home upgrades is more affordable than ever.

From start to finish, our experience was incredible. Justin was extremely helpful. The crew was fast, friendly, and efficient. And most importantly, our home is WAY warmer and our heating is less costly. I'd highly recommend evergreen to anyone looking to upgrade their home!

Evergreen did an amazing job insulating our historic home. Their professional staff worked hard to ensure the tough areas in the attic were covered, and clearly communicated their progress. We are seeing the results with our discounted heating bills. Thank you, Evergreen!

Our house still the most efficient home we’ve ever lived in. And we have you folks to thank for that! A special howdy to Brian Robinson please!

Nothing but good things to say. The guys that came and did the actual work were extremely nice and did a great job. The energy audit was thorough and I was presented with multiple improvement options, I was even given ideas for improvement that Evergreen didn't offer. I never felt like I was being "sold".

Ryan Adams

Really great experience from start to finish with Evergreen. They helped us prioritize what needed to be completed first, and has made a significant difference in our hearing costs already. Plus they were really friendly and considerate to work with!

Evergreen completed the work at my home thoroughly and professionally. An inspector from Efficiency Maine came to inspect afterwards and described it as "state of the art" and "outstanding". The crew was very pleasant and considerate during the project. Their cleanup each day was perfect. Communications with the office were easy and reliable. I am very satisfied.

I was extremely pleased with the professionalism and quality of service that I received from the Evergreen team. I met Richard to discuss options for insulation. I knew immediately that I wanted to do business with them because he did not try to over-sell extra services that I did not need. Dave was the project manager. He was not only kind, but very respectful of my home. I would highly recommend this company.

The folks at Evergreen did a great job fixing a rather major insulation problem in my house, which they helped identify with a great audit. When the work began, they were thorough, upbeat, and -- dare I say it -- efficient. I strongly recommend them.

I waited a year to write this review. Evergreen finished our job late last winter. Terrific results!!! we've gone from 12-day propane deliveries to 30+ day propane deliveries. The house is noticeably warmer. The Evergreen crew was/is professional, prompt, thorough, scientific, gracious and immaculate with respect to keeping our house clean. Money well spent.

We needed basement encapsulation to stop moisture coming up into the house from our regularly flooding basement. We had mold growing on windowsills and furniture. All the staff were friendly, respectful of our home, and easy to work with. Humidity has gone from 70% down to 40% and mold has not grown back after two months. Very grateful.

First we have Evergreen do a BIG project worth about $20K (windows, basement, insulate & rebuild an entire wall, a door, attics, and air sealing). They were so great we had them come back later when we decided we did want to do our other door. They are professional and do great work. They take care of your home and are trustworthy, and on top of all that friendly! I highly recommend you call them!

Garreth C Debiegun

They were highly recommended. I found them to be very knowledgeable and so helpful, with practical ideas. Despite my not living within their service area, they were generous with their knowledge, describing the usual solutions to correct leaks in my basement, and what the result is likely to be by following path A, B or C, and why. I was discouraged. Talking with Evergreen helped me see that my basement problems are far from insurmountable and really, fairly common in 100-year old homes. There are proven solutions.

I used to spend winters in the bathtub because my house was so cold. This was my first winter roaming around my whole house comfortably. This even led me to decorate a little. My heating oil usage has been reduced by over a quarter: I rarely have to boost the thermostat because the temp stays at a constant. The Efficiency Maine rebates, together with the energy savings, make it affordable for me to pay for the loan I took out to finance the project. I do not worry about my pipes freezing.

I cannot say enough great things about working with Evergreen Home Performance. Everything including the initial consultation, the fabulous work crew, the office support and the final resolution was handled in a caring and professional manner. My only regret is that I did not know about them earlier. I enthusiastically recommend Evergreen to anyone with concerns about home energy use.

Evergreen came back this year to finish insulating our house. We have been remodeling and renovating an 1850s cape for several years. Their employees are very professional and pleasant to deal with. Over several years Brian Robinson has been able to schedule us in for several small areas that needed addressing and finally turning a room we used to close off in the winter into a comfortable usable space. We primarily heat with wood and since Evergreens great work our furnace has only come on ONCE this winter. Fantastic. Really satisfied customer in Thomaston.
