Retrofitting the Rockland Public Library: Setting the Scene

The Rockland Public Library attics have several access points, but the main hatch opens just above this beautiful arch. We’re spending a lot of time at the Library this month, thanks to a major energy efficiency upgrade that we estimate will save taxpayers more than $10,000 in heating costs every year. Led by BPI-certified Project Manager Svea Tullberg, our crew is insulating the roof slopes, wall cavities, rim joists, and foundation walls in the 110-year-old building.

Though the Library’s building performance left something to be desired, the construction techniques have our production crew ooh-ing and ahh-ing. Take a look at the lath and plaster construction on the side of the arch (right) and the top of the dome (left).

From beginning to end – that is from the moment Justin McEdward stepped into our home to assess our energy conservation needs until the crew left – the Evergreen Home Performance process went absolutely smoothly. Evergreen came out 2 years ago to do an assessment and insulate our roof. This year we had them come back and do the basement as well. They are hands-down the best crew we've ever hired to work on our house. They are experts at what they do, and super meticulous in their work. After working in our house for a week with blown insulation, there was no trace they were ever here. The Evergreen crew who installed insulation in my attic were fantastic! They were very professional, worked exceedingly hard, and they did an excellent job.
