Kitchen Tour features Energy Efficient Home

One of 8 homes on Merryspring’s annual Kitchen Tour boasts more than an enlarged, custom kitchen. The 1880s farmhouse got an energy efficiency upgrade from Evergreen this year, including basement encapsulation and attic insulation that made the home more comfortable and affordable.

Participants on the annual kitchen tour can learn more about the energy upgrades while admiring the work of the homeowner-cabinetmaker and enjoying tastings from local chefs. Rockport’s Blue Sky Cantina is catering the morning, and Camden’s Conscious Kitchen will provide treats for the afternoon.

Tour the kitchen (#2 on the tour) for $10, or visit all 8 featured kitchens for $25 ($35 on the day of the tour). Proceeds benefit Merryspring Nature Center, a non-profit park and educational center with nature trails and gardens open to the public every day. This member-supported organization offers talks, classes, and workshops throughout the year.

We absolutely loved our experience with Evergreen. The team was incredibly kind, professional and great to work with. We're very impressed with the quality of work of the Evergreen team and how easy they made everything! Our house had barely any insulation ahead of this project and the results are amazing. Insulating the attic, walls and basement with Evergreen allowed us to tear a 50-year-old furnace, ductwork and oil tank out of the basement and now heat the home with new heat pumps. Evergreen also added 100 sq ft of clean, new storage space to the attic!

We just finished a large project of air sealing and reinsulating our 1890s basement and attic which had been completely renovated 8 years ago but still felt cold and lacked proper energy assessment and corrections. We met with Justin in December and were very impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and communication skills and knew Evergreen was who we wanted to work with. Evergreen came back this year to finish insulating our house. We have been remodeling and renovating an 1850s cape for several years. Their employees are very professional and pleasant to deal with. Over several years Brian Robinson has been able to schedule us in for several small areas that needed addressing and finally turning a room we used to close off in the winter into a comfortable usable space.
