Kitchen Tour features Energy Efficient Home

One of 8 homes on Merryspring’s annual Kitchen Tour boasts more than an enlarged, custom kitchen. The 1880s farmhouse got an energy efficiency upgrade from Evergreen this year, including basement encapsulation and attic insulation that made the home more comfortable and affordable.

Participants on the annual kitchen tour can learn more about the energy upgrades while admiring the work of the homeowner-cabinetmaker and enjoying tastings from local chefs. Rockport’s Blue Sky Cantina is catering the morning, and Camden’s Conscious Kitchen will provide treats for the afternoon.

Tour the kitchen (#2 on the tour) for $10, or visit all 8 featured kitchens for $25 ($35 on the day of the tour). Proceeds benefit Merryspring Nature Center, a non-profit park and educational center with nature trails and gardens open to the public every day. This member-supported organization offers talks, classes, and workshops throughout the year.

We absolutely loved our experience with Evergreen. The team was incredibly kind, professional and great to work with. Insulating the attic, walls and basement with Evergreen allowed us to tear a 50-year-old furnace, ductwork and oil tank out of the basement and now heat the home with new heat pumps. In the final stages of selling our home, and with a closing date set, an inspection came across an unanticipated issue in our attic. Brian Robinson was on site the next morning and immediately identified the source (a faulty roofing job completed three years earlier which had effectively sealed up portions of the ridge vent and restricted air flow - not easily visible with a quick inspection).
