Upgrade Your Doors This Summer

Back to Blog

Although the spring weather in Maine is never truly spring-like, the heat of summer will be here before you know it. With warm days and sunshine right around the corner, the weather will be perfect to tackle a few projects around the house. Maybe you’re planning on taking care of the landscaping or finally repainting, but do your doors also need some attention?

Reasons to Upgrade Your Exterior Doors

While it’s obvious when some things in the house need to be replaced, like an outdated air conditioner, how can you determine whether your exterior doors need to be upgraded? If your doors are looking worse for wear, are drafty, or don’t shut properly, they should be replaced. New exterior doors can provide the following benefits:

Curb Appeal

Although an exterior door can be easily overlooked if it’s not in great shape, if it’s new and looks great, it truly makes a statement. New doors can add interest to your home’s exterior. They are also a high return on investment upgrade and appeal to homebuyers, if and when you decide to sell.

Energy Efficiency

Old, worn, and warped exterior doors can have gaps and cracks which easily allow drafts in. In the summer this means hot air can enter and heat your home, making it uncomfortable. Not only can old doors affect the comfort of your home throughout the year, but they can also be responsible for higher bills. Imagine if you didn’t have to keep adjusting the thermostat because drafts were constantly plaguing your home — that would definitely help to save you time and money.

Security & Durability

New, solid, and sturdy exterior doors can help protect your home, providing you with peace of mind. By updating your doors, you’ll increase your home’s security and durability.

My husband and I bought a home on the water in Owls Head and decided to make the investment in Evergreen's recommendations for insulation. Brian Robinson spent 3 hours examining every nook and cranny before he made practical suggestions and explained them thoroughly to us.

We had Evergreen Home Performance of Rockland come in to make our home more energy efficient, and what a TOP notch crew. Brian and his crew did an amazing job from start to finish. Very knowledgeable and professional. We would Definitely highly recommend this crew to anyone who is looking for energy efficiency in their home with a company that truly is an expert and knows how to do a quality job and truly cares about their customer.

The team members were very professional, worked very hard, paid very close attention to detail and cleaned up meticulously every day. I really appreciated the care they took knowing the smallest details were going to make a big difference to our heating bills. Thank you!

Evergreen has just completed Phase 2 of 2 at my home. They are professional, hard-working and courteous. They communicate well..no surprises. They've gone above and beyond to make my home comfortable and were very respectful of my home.I recommend them unequivocally!!!Many thanks to Brian, Brian, Rick, Eddie, Dawson and the rest of the Evergreen crew!!

In the final stages of selling our home, and with a closing date set, an inspection came across an unanticipated issue in our attic. We quickly called in contractors, but nobody was able to identify the source of the problem. Then we thought of Evergreen. Brian Robinson was on site the next morning and immediately identified the source (a faulty roofing job completed three years earlier which had effectively sealed up portions of the ridge vent and restricted air flow - not easily visible with a quick inspection).

A thorough inspection of our (older) house and its energy needs. Competent and personable work crew.

Update 12/2018: Evergreen has completed Phase II of my house (insulating and installing air/moisture barrier on exterior walls, replacing old windows) and now that heating season is upon us, the difference is astonishing. The house is tight as a drum and so easy to keep warm. Worth every penny. Thank you all! Working with Evergreen was a positive experience from start (no charge energy audit) to finish (a MUCH more comfortable home). Brian Robinson spent a lot of time with me on the audit, explaining clearly what he was finding in my ca.

I cant say enough about this company and the benefits that it created for our family. They are very professional and have effectively re-insulated our home. The heating bill proves the point.

Awesome company. It was a few years ago that they did the audit and then we commissioned them to do the work. We subsequently sold our house and moved to South Africa, but their level of service and expertise will live on.

Odette Brown

Our house still the most efficient home we’ve ever lived in. And we have you folks to thank for that! A special howdy to Brian Robinson please!

Bruce O’Donal and Eva Butler

I used to spend winters in the bathtub because my house was so cold. This was my first winter roaming around my whole house comfortably. This even led me to decorate a little. My heating oil usage has been reduced by over a quarter: I rarely have to boost the thermostat because the temp stays at a constant. The Efficiency Maine rebates, together with the energy savings, make it affordable for me to pay for the loan I took out to finance the project. I do not worry about my pipes freezing.

Evergreen did a fantastic job replacing 28 windows in our house. They were friendly, courteous, and very detail oriented. Brian did a great job planning, estimating and executing the project. Our energy use has dropped significantly since the work was done.

Evergreen was so helpful in securing us Efficiency Maine funding for a big attic insulation project early this winter. They did all of the paperwork, and totally guided us through a vermiculite removal process that included a payment from a trust for the procedure. I could instantly feel the second floor being so much warmer than before. The boiler does not kick on nearly as frequently since they completed the job. It was worth every penny! Brian Robinson was so thorough throughout the whole process including a full walk through after the job had been completed.
