Basement Water Proofing

Basement Water Proofing

Drain the Water Out Right, Radon Tight!

Radon is a serious concern in many Maine homes, and unfortunately some basement waterproofing companies are doing work that actually makes the problem worse.

Expert Basement Waterproofing Services for Maine Homes

Damp floors. Musty smells. Mold. These common basement issues aren’t just unpleasant—they play large roles in the overall health and comfort of your entire home.

When your basement is dry, sealed, and healthy, your entire home feels more comfortable, cleaner, and more energy-efficient, and you have peace of mind.

At Evergreen, we’ve been helping homeowners throughout Southern and Coastal Maine solve basement moisture problems for nearly two decades. Whether it’s a basement or a crawlspace, we provide customized waterproofing solutions that fit your home’s specific needs, including:

  • Protecting your home from water damage and mold
  • Improving indoor air quality for a healthier home
  • Reducing humidity and lowering energy costs
  • Creating a drier, usable space for storage
  • Adding long-lasting value to your home
  • Enjoying peace of mind, even during Maine’s heaviest storms

We take a different approach. Every basement project we do is designed to make your home not just drier, but healthier. We partner with the local Maine company Air & Water Quality, and if you don’t have a mitigation system already and haven’t had a recent test, we offer a free radon test kit with every basement consult.

A Custom Approach for Every Basement

No two basements are the same. A basement in Portland might flood during every spring thaw. Another up in Rockland might just feel cold and damp year-round. That’s why Evergreen doesn’t offer one-size-fits-all fixes; we build tailored solutions using a combination of services working together to keep water out and comfort in, including:

Air Sealing and Insulation

Moisture often sneaks in through cracks and uninsulated surfaces. By sealing leaks and insulating the basement walls or rim joists, we boost energy efficiency and make your whole home more comfortable.

Basement Encapsulation/Vapor Barrier Installation

In homes with crawl spaces, moisture and mold often start below the floor. We can seal basement walls and floors with a heavy-duty vapor barrier that keeps ground moisture, pests, and unhealthy air out of your home for good.

Interior French Drain System

A drainage channel along the interior perimeter of your basement captures water and directs it to your sump pit.

Sump Pump Installation

When water collects, the sump pump moves it out fast. We install powerful pumps with backup systems so your basement stays dry even if the power goes out during a storm.

Ventilation and Dehumidification

Once moisture is controlled, we help you maintain a dry, healthy space. We install EPA-recommended exhaust fans and AprilAire® dehumidifiers to manage humidity levels and improve indoor air quality.

Save with Efficiency Maine Rebates, Financing, and Tax Credits

Waterproofing your basement is a smart investment and in some cases, it qualifies for financial incentives.

  • Insulation and air sealing upgrades that are part of your basement waterproofing project often qualify for Efficiency Maine rebates (up to $8,000) and federal tax credits (up to $1,200 per year).
  • Other work, like drainage systems, sump pumps, or dehumidifiers, typically does not qualify for these incentives.

We just finished a large project of air sealing and reinsulating our 1890s basement and attic which had been completely renovated 8 years ago but still felt cold and lacked proper energy assessment and corrections. We met with Justin in December and were very impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and communication skills and knew Evergreen was who we wanted to work with. Dave was our on hands project manager and was excellent. The office staff has been quick to respond and helpful as well when needed.

Evergreen has insulated two homes that we've owned now and both times we experienced exceptional service and craftsmanship. Our rep, Justin, went above and beyond answering questions and the installation team was attentive to every detail, including pulling out old poorly installed insulation and redoing a bathroom fan that wasn't up to current code. They also left the place spotless every day! Our home is already so much warmer this fall and we are looking forward to using less oil this winter.

I was very impressed by the professionalism of this company and the workers. Brian R. was very prompt in replying to my questions; the crew was meticulous in all parts of the work and attentive to the safety aspects concerning Covid; and Brian was extremely thorough in the final inspection. My attic is now snug and warm and I've noticed that the second floor is warmer as well.

From beginning to end – that is from the moment Justin McEdward stepped into our home to assess our energy conservation needs until the crew left – the Evergreen Home Performance process went absolutely smoothly. Justin made a thorough inspection and took pictures with an infrared camera. His proposal described the scope of work in detail, and he explained what we could expect the proposed work to accomplish. Our proposal was forthcoming within a couple of days, and Justin was available to discuss it and answer questions.

Nothing but good things to say. The guys that came and did the actual work were extremely nice and did a great job. The energy audit was thorough and I was presented with multiple improvement options, I was even given ideas for improvement that Evergreen didn't offer. I never felt like I was being "sold".

I am very pleased with my experience with Evergreen Home Performance. I met several times with Richard Burbank and he was very detailed in his explanations to all of my questions. He provided me with several options for improving the insulation to our home. The team of installers were very professional and respectful of our home. They did a great job of cleaning up every day after the days work and they were also very responsive to all my questions as well as we collaborated to get our home better insulated. It was a pleasure to work with Richard and…

Our house still the most efficient home we’ve ever lived in. And we have you folks to thank for that! A special howdy to Brian Robinson please!

Bruce O’Donal and Eva Butler

We initially contacted Evergreen through Efficiency Maine for an energy audit, which was conducted promptly and professionally by Justin McEdward, one of their Energy Advisors who is BPI-certified. After a thorough inspection of our newly purchased home, Justin explained in great detail what we needed and did not need. It was agreed that Evergreen would remove all of the existing attic insulation, which was not adequate, and replace it with blown in cellulose, to a rating of R-60.

I cant say enough about this company and the benefits that it created for our family. They are very professional and have effectively re-insulated our home. The heating bill proves the point.

We are thrilled with the job Evergreen did to transform our 213 year old home into a warm, draft-free, cozy space. The entire team led by Bruce was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and hard working. If Evergreen could transform our home in this way, we are sure they would make a comparable difference in YOUR home!

Very Satisfied with the work performed by Evergreen. Professional employees, high quality work done in a timely manner. My sales rep was Justin, and he was phenomenal During the initial walk around my house, he gave me great ideas for how to improve the efficiency of our home. We will consult with Evergreen for our future home projects.

In the final stages of selling our home, and with a closing date set, an inspection came across an unanticipated issue in our attic. We quickly called in contractors, but nobody was able to identify the source of the problem. Then we thought of Evergreen. Brian Robinson was on site the next morning and immediately identified the source (a faulty roofing job completed three years earlier which had effectively sealed up portions of the ridge vent and restricted air flow - not easily visible with a quick inspection).

Several years ago Brian Robinson evaluated the crawl space at my summer home on Islesboro where I knew moisture was becoming a problem. I had done quite a bit of work in the space many years prior with mixed results. When Brian offered some suggestions, they were ideas that incorporated work previously done, and would be a relatively low cost effort to improve the situation. He offered this advice over several phone conversations of some length, informally, and at no charge.
