What Makes a Job at Evergreen a Rewarding Career for Veterans?

Back to Blog

The strength of the US military comes from teamwork, camaraderie, and the best training available. Was your time in the military rewarding, whether it was helping out your fellow soldiers or aiding those around the world that needed our help? As a veteran, you deserve a career that taps into your mission-driven hands-on work experience  and also makes the world a better place.

The Evergreen Home Performance Mission

A job well done here at Evergreen Home Performance makes the homes of our fellow Mainers more comfortable, more efficient, healthier, and oftentimes, more beautiful. We do this through methodical, building science-based home upgrades like basement and attic insulation, window replacement, energy audits, and more. Our enemies are high levels of humidity and moisture, air gaps, and low levels of insulation in the housing stock of Midcoast and Southern Maine.

What Your New Field Would Look Like

No two days are exactly the same here at Evergreen Home Performance. You will get a close-up look at many different home types and construction methods each and every day. Plus, no two solutions are exactly the same. We take a customized approach to each and every home performance challenge, and all of our field technicians and installers enjoy problem-solving.

While you may find yourself in some tight, hot, humid, or cold spaces, you will always have the support you need from your fellow teammates and your FOB. We utilize fully equipped trucks to ensure you have the right tools, however, the most important tool we need from you is your brain!

There’s No Such Thing as an FNG at EHP

No one wants to feel like an FNG or a Bolo on the job. As long as you bring your work ethic with you every day, you will never be made to feel like you’re last in the pecking order. Our employees come from a wide range of backgrounds, and we take pride in bringing our newest team members up to speed quickly but correctly. We work in small team units, where you work off each other’s strengths. There is no end to training—you will learn something new with each home you work on.

Continue Making a Difference in the World

While our pay is more than competitive for the industry, we often hear that the most rewarding thing about a career here at Evergreen is contributing to the overall health of the earth. By reducing the energy use in Maine homes, we are helping reduce the rate that our climate is changing. This does good for our local Maine shores, our forests, our farms, and much more. Plus, you get to see the smiles on the faces of our customers when they realize their energy bills will be lower and their homes will be more comfortable!

Our basement was the eyesore of the house. I wanted to make improvements, but first needed to make structural, insulating and moisture mitigation improvements. Evergreen was professional and competent in taking on a complex project of not only encapsulation and insulation of basement and crawlspace, but completed needed improvements to the structural integrity of the wood floor platform above a crawlspace and brought in a concrete contractor to pour where there was once a rotting, tiered wood platform - replacing that area with a more functional and tight tiered concrete area.

From beginning to end – that is from the moment Justin McEdward stepped into our home to assess our energy conservation needs until the crew left – the Evergreen Home Performance process went absolutely smoothly. Justin made a thorough inspection and took pictures with an infrared camera. His proposal described the scope of work in detail, and he explained what we could expect the proposed work to accomplish. Our proposal was forthcoming within a couple of days, and Justin was available to discuss it and answer questions.

We initially contacted Evergreen through Efficiency Maine for an energy audit, which was conducted promptly and professionally by Justin McEdward, one of their Energy Advisors who is BPI-certified. After a thorough inspection of our newly purchased home, Justin explained in great detail what we needed and did not need. It was agreed that Evergreen would remove all of the existing attic insulation, which was not adequate, and replace it with blown in cellulose, to a rating of R-60.

I cant say enough about this company and the benefits that it created for our family. They are very professional and have effectively re-insulated our home. The heating bill proves the point.

Highly recommended. Our heating usage is now less than half what it was before we had our roof insulated. Evergreen was knowledgeable, friendly, and left no trace they were ever in our house. Not only is our heating bill much lower now, but our home is generally more comfortable year-round with less temperature fluctuations. Money well spent.

Last week, my oil company asked if we were using some other kind of fuel because our usage was so much less than they had expected We are very happy with the results; the house is much more comfortable

A thorough inspection of our (older) house and its energy needs. Competent and personable work crew.

We just finished a large project of air sealing and reinsulating our 1890s basement and attic which had been completely renovated 8 years ago but still felt cold and lacked proper energy assessment and corrections. We met with Justin in December and were very impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and communication skills and knew Evergreen was who we wanted to work with. Dave was our on hands project manager and was excellent. The office staff has been quick to respond and helpful as well when needed.

Update 12/2018: Evergreen has completed Phase II of my house (insulating and installing air/moisture barrier on exterior walls, replacing old windows) and now that heating season is upon us, the difference is astonishing. The house is tight as a drum and so easy to keep warm. Worth every penny. Thank you all! Working with Evergreen was a positive experience from start (no charge energy audit) to finish (a MUCH more comfortable home). Brian Robinson spent a lot of time with me on the audit, explaining clearly what he was finding in my ca.

I highly recommend Evergreen! 1st, I had a home efficiency inspection (that was free) & Bryan P. was great! He took the time needed, asked & listened to what I thought were priorities, explained clearly what he thought were priorities & why, then gave me numerous options. No pressure whatsoever. Then I had my attic sealed & insulated as the 1st step & Bryan came along on day 1 to introduce everyone & make sure we were all on the same page. Bruce's team (inc. Kelsey & Roland) did the work - they were exceptional!!

I would recommend Evergreen wholeheartedly because of their professionalism, their follow through, and thoughtful project planning.

I cannot say enough great things about working with Evergreen Home Performance. Everything including the initial consultation, the fabulous work crew, the office support and the final resolution was handled in a caring and professional manner. My only regret is that I did not know about them earlier. I enthusiastically recommend Evergreen to anyone with concerns about home energy use.

We absolutely loved our experience with Evergreen. The team was incredibly kind, professional and great to work with. We're very impressed with the quality of work of the Evergreen team and how easy they made everything! Our house had barely any insulation ahead of this project and the results are amazing. Insulating the attic, walls and basement with Evergreen allowed us to tear a 50-year-old furnace, ductwork and oil tank out of the basement and now heat the home with new heat pumps. Evergreen also added 100 sq ft of clean, new storage space to the attic!

South Portland

Several years ago Brian Robinson evaluated the crawl space at my summer home on Islesboro where I knew moisture was becoming a problem. I had done quite a bit of work in the space many years prior with mixed results. When Brian offered some suggestions, they were ideas that incorporated work previously done, and would be a relatively low cost effort to improve the situation. He offered this advice over several phone conversations of some length, informally, and at no charge.

We couldn't be more pleased with the easy, professional, high-value service from Evergreen. Having purchased an older home that had been in our family for generations, we needed multiple upgrades, including insulation throughout. Evergreen insulated our attic with blown-in cellulose, built a new, super-insulated attic hatch, sealed off the old one (which was just a piece of plywood in a closet ceiling), and also talked us through our best options to upgrade our heating system given the plans we have to add onto the house.
