What a difference a week makes! My basement encapsulation project isn’t quite finished – spray foam insulation is happening today – but it’s already been an incredible transformation.

I wrote last week about how poorly our basement had been treated in the past. Thanks to those mistakes, the wooden shelves in the before picture (above, left) were already rotting. (Since the so-called vapor barrier just went around them, rather than underneath them, moisture was wicking directly into the wood.) Evergreen pulled out all the rotten wood and correctly installed a new, durable drainage mat and vapor barrier.

Correct installation included sliding the vapor barrier beneath the oil tank (below, right) instead of just pulling it close to the tank (below, right). Now the barrier is complete, with no air leaks for moisture to sneak around. The space is bright, clean, and shiny – and ready for spray foam!

Evergreen was professional and competent in taking on a complex project of not only encapsulation and insulation of basement and crawlspace, but completed needed improvements to the structural integrity of the wood floor platform above a crawlspace and brought in a concrete contractor to pour where there was once a rotting, tiered wood platform - replacing that area with a more functional and tight tiered concrete area.

They conducted an air flow audit and cut the draft circulation from the outside in half by sealing cracks. I never leave reviews, but had a great experience with Evergreen and wanted to spread the word! In short, we worked with them to insulate our roof this winter and have noticed surprising immediate results. The constant ice dams I have wrestled with are completely gone, and the home is noticeably more comfortable. In the final stages of selling our home, and with a closing date set, an inspection came across an unanticipated issue in our attic. We quickly called in contractors, but nobody was able to identify the source of the problem. Then we thought of Evergreen.
